Pupils taking healthy steps in education
16/05/08
S1 pupils at St Machar Academy will be embarking on a healthy journey next week, to help their education.
The Pedometer Project will see the children issued with pedometers as part of the School of Ambition Programme, which runs next week (May 19 23). The pupils will be asked to keep a record of the steps they have taken, the physical activity they have undertaken, how they feel, and the food they have eaten.
The information gathered from the pedometers will be used across a number of subjects including, English, Maths, Science, PSE, Home Economics and PE. It will also be used for competitions in classes.
Also during the week, all S1 pupils will be given the opportunity to have breakfast, sponsored by Sainsburys, during their period one classes.
Teachers will also be wearing pedometers throughout the week, and will be going head to head against the youngsters in a contest to see who clocks up the most steps.
On Friday, 23 May, the pupils will be going to Loch Muick, Ballater to take part in a country walk round the Loch. The venue is a truly beautiful part of Scotland and will allow the children to enjoy Scotland at its best whilst increasing their activity level.
Representatives of some of the partner agencies involved in the project, including NHS Grampian and Active Schools, will be joining the expedition.
