Work on new parking zone commences
30/06/08
Work to implement Aberdeens newest controlled parking zone, which is due to go live on 1 October, has begun.
Zone W covers the northern section of George Street and the surrounding streets. From 1 September residents can apply for up to two parking permits per household.
Permits entitle holders to park up to two vehicles on the street in both Residents and Pay and Display parking areas of the zone, for £50 per vehicle per year. A permit is only required if a vehicle is to be parked on-street in the controlled parking bays during fee-paying hours, which are 8am-6pm, Monday to Saturday.
Businesses in the zone can also apply for up to two permits, which each cost £143 per year.
Information regarding the purchase of permits will be displayed on street notices in Zone W in advance of the release date of 1 September. The notices will detail the required documentation to be provided by residents upon purchase of permits.
Applications for permits can be made by post or in person at The Point, next to the main entrance to St Nicholas House on Broad Street. Application forms for both resident and business permits can also be downloaded from the city councils website at www.aberdeencity.gov.uk from 1 September, by clicking on P on the A-to-Z of Services on the home page and then clicking on Parking Permits.
The new Zone W is bounded by Powis Terrace, Powis Place, Canal Road, Causewayend, Gerrard Street, Maberly Street, Ann Street, Holland Street and Leslie Terrace.
Throughout the implementation works, and until such time as the Zone W becomes operational, residents and visitors can continue to park for free in any marked parking bay in the area. Yellow lined restrictions will, however, be enforced with immediate effect.
Queries about permits should be directed to the parking office, by calling 01224 653300. Anyone with questions about controlled parking policy and the operation of the zone should contact the road safety and traffic management team by calling 01224 523474 or 01224 522641.
