Childcare can be a positive career choice
23/05/08
An event to promote childcare as a positive career choice is to be held in Aberdeen next week.
The multi-agency event is aimed at local people who may be interested in pursuing a career working with children and young people, and will provide information about routes into childcare, as well as the training and employment opportunities available.
Local childcare employers, training providers, fostering and childminding services, and childcare practitioners will be on hand to explain more about what is involved in working in the childcare sector. Job Centre Plus staff will be there to give information about benefits.
Anne Donaldson, Aberdeen City Council Early Years Manager said: "There are a number of reasons why this event is needed, not least that it had been identified by local people, but also in response to a growing recruitment and retention issue in the childcare sector.
The aim is to be pro-active and have the ability to respond to a growing need for childcare that is likely to increase with changes to the benefit system that will be implemented in the autumn. We also want to highlight the positives for young children and their families when they have access to high quality childcare provision.
The day will be informal with lots of opportunities to chat to workers in the childcare sector."
Whether you are male, female, employed, unemployed, young or older drop in if you are interested in finding out more about working with children and young people, and making a positive career choice.
The event takes place on Thursday 29 May at the Aberdeen Lads Club, Dill Road, Tillydrone, from 10.30am until 2.30pm. Councillor Irene Cormack will formally open the event at 11.30am.
