Art from a high-rise window

A land of make-believe was created outside Aberdeen high rise flats by children who were given the chance to build the view they would like to see from their windows.
A UFO, a roller coaster, a train, and a host of birds and animals were created by Seaton youngsters for Seaton Outdoor Arts project. It provided an opportunity for local children to create large-scale artwork which was to be viewed from the high rise flats there.
Prior to making their works of art, the children thought about their area and imagined the view they would like to see from their windows.
With the help of Aberdeen City Councils arts development team and Seaton Community Project staff, the children built the UFO, train, roller coaster, animals, and birds, which they animated using stop-frame techniques.
Community arts officer Margaret Stewart said: This was a really fun project and the kids involved should be really proud of the work they produced as a team. The sense of humour is definitely captured in the artwork and it's great we can share that with local residents.
The launch of the animated films takes place on Thursday, 3 July, from 3.30pm 4.30pm at Seaton Community Project, when the animations will be screened. The artwork used to make the animated shorts will also be on display, as will large-scale photographs of the artwork taken from each of the high-rise buildings involved in the projects. The young artists will be at the launch.
There will then be a tour of the high rises to view the exhibition of photographs of the childrens work. The photo exhibition will remain in place for residents of the high-rises, their friends and family, until 31 July.
The project was a collaboration between The Arts Development Team and Seaton Community Project. It was funded by the Community Regeneration Fund and the Drug and Alcohol Initiative Fund.
The intention was to make artwork that could be enjoyed by the wider community. For those who did not witness the creation and performance of these pieces over the six week project, the photographic exhibition will be on show in the there will be foyer areas of Bayview Court, Northsea Court, Aulton Court, and Beachview Court.
