30/06/08
An opportunity to explore the history, archaeology and natural history of Bucksburn is being offered by Aberdeen City Council on Saturday, 5 July.
Join Judith Stones, keeper (archaeology), Chris Croly and Stewart Thain, assistant keepers (research) and Alister Clunas, chief officer, Aberdeen Greenspace Trust Limited, formerly Aberdeen Countryside Project, on a guided walk, which sets off at 2pm from St Machars Episcopal Church on Old Meldrum Road.
The walk will examine the history of the railways and canals in Bucksburn then move to Howes Road and explore the intriguing and controversial history of Aberdeens freedom lands and March stones. Pre-historic settlement in the area as well as the development of Bucksburn in the medieval period will also be studied.
Alister Clunas will be on hand to talk about the fascinating and varied wildlife and natural history of the area.
Chris Croly, assistant keeper (research) neighbourhood services (north) said: The walk is a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon. It will be an interesting walk as it takes in so much of the varied history and wildlife of the Bucksburn area.
