Lord Provost’s Charitable Trust Pink Ball to raise cash for CLAN
13/11/08
Guests at a charity ball being held in Aberdeen tomorrow [Friday, 14 November] will be in the pink as they raise cash for a pioneering project for cancer patients.
The Pink Ball is being organised by Aberdeens Lord Provosts Charitable Trust, which is aiming to raise £25,000 for CLAN (Cancer Link Aberdeen and North).
All the proceeds from the black tie dinner named in honour of cancer patients will help to improve the way in which those newly diagnosed with cancer are supported to cope with the psychological impact.
The Pink Ball will be held at the Douglas Hotel on Market Street, Aberdeen, from 7.30pm to 1am tomorrow.
The event is being sponsored by First Oil and will be compered by Northsound 2 DJ Cammy Campbell.
Guests will be treated to a champagne reception with a pink theme, followed by a sumptuous four-course meal then dancing to the Graham Geddes Band and the Red Hot Ceilidh Pipers.
There will be a raffle and charity auction, with fantastic lots including Eastern Airways flights to Stavanger with two nights accommodation, a dinner and panto package, and dinner for 12 at the Marcliffe Hotel and Spa, as well as whisky, jewellery, paintings and fishing packages.
The Lord Provosts Charitable Trust is a fund independent of Aberdeen City Council, which was set up for the millennium to support good causes of all kinds in the city.
The trust held a Diamond Ball in April, which raised more than £35,000 for the local urological cancer charity UCAN and Marie Curie Cancer Care.
Lord Provost Peter Stephen said: Over the years, the Lord Provosts Charitable Trust has supported many different community groups and charities in the north-east, but cancer touches so many lives that we decided to support CLAN and donate the proceeds from the Pink Ball to this Aberdeen-based charity, which does such brilliant work locally.
It is sure to be another fantastic evening and on behalf of the organising committee Id like to thank everyone for their support.
Julie McRobbie, CLANs manager added: We are thrilled that the Lord Provosts Charitable Trust has chosen CLAN to benefit from the Pink Ball. Funds raised on the night will go towards providing a free programme for newly diagnosed clients, aiming to give them the knowledge and skills to help manage their own condition.
CLAN is an independent charity which helps individuals of all ages who find themselves affected by any type of cancer by providing a safe place for them to express and overcome their worries.
Based in Aberdeen, the charity covers the whole of Grampian, Orkney and Shetland. CLAN recently launched its 1-2-3 campaign, which aims to raise £3million over two years in a bid to move to a purpose designed cancer support centre and headquarters.
