Fish-tasting session to celebrate 25 years in business
28/07/08
Aberdeen Lord Provost Peter Stephen is visiting a local fishmonger to celebrate the firms quarter of a century in business.
Merchant and Reid are marking the occasion with fish-tasting sessions at their premises at Aberdeen Market.
Owners Ian Merchant and Michael Reid formed the wholesale business 26 years ago. A year later they decided to branch into retail and opened the fishmongers at the site they still occupy today.
The shop will be holding three days of fish tasting, starting tomorrow [Tuesday, 29 July] to celebrate reaching the milestone. Customers will be offered tasty fish snacks and beverages.
Councillor Neil Fletcher will accompany the Lord Provost on his visit.
The Lord Provost commented: I am delighted to be supporting this 25th birthday. Over the years legislation, supermarkets and higher costs have all contributed to making life more difficult for local fishmongers. But quality always wins through and Merchant and Reid can be proud of their record of serving the people of Aberdeen for so long.
Mr Merchant commented: We are looking forward to welcoming the Lord Provost and Councillor Fletcher, as well as customers old and new, to sample the fish we have to offer.
We have seen many changes in the fish trade in the last 25 years but always strive to offer customers quality, variety and value for money.
