Euro quiz for Aberdeen youngsters

09/05/08

Primary school children enjoyed a Euro-quiz today [Fri, May 9] to mark Europe Day.

The youngsters were quizzed by members of Europe Direct Aberdeen, a newly established information service based in the Central Library.

The UK Office of the European Parliament devised the quiz, which was held at the library on Rosemount Viaduct and featured questions on Europe and the European Union. Prizes were awarded to the winners and all the children taking part received Europe Direct goody bags.

In the afternoon every library visitor had the chance to take part in a Quiz for Europe, with copies of the quiz available in two categories – for under-12s and over-12s.

People could visit the Europe Direct stand in the foyer of St Nicholas House from 2-4pm to pick up an entry form for the chance to win up to £20 in vouchers. Alternatively copies of the entry forms can be picked up at the Central Library and at branch libraries throughout the city or can be downloaded from:

Europe Day is a celebration of the diversity of cultures in Europe, providing an opportunity for people to come together and to learn more about the European Union. It has been celebrated across Europe on 9 May every year since 1985.

Europe Direct Aberdeen is one of over 400 such centres spread throughout the European Union, which make up the official network of European Commission information services.
