EXPLORE ABERDEEN

Equestrian extravaganza this weekend at Duthie Park

22/08/08

The Lord and Lady Provost of Aberdeen will tour the City of Aberdeen Clydesdale Horse Show at 3pm on Saturday, 23 August at the Duthie Park, Aberdeen.

The event will see the “gentle giants” of the horse world be prepared and shown for judging throughout the daylong event. Although judging gets underway at 10am people can go along to the park beforehand and see the horses being washed, prepared and groomed ready for the competition.

There will be many in-hand classes from young foals to geldings and mares.

There will also be a harness class, which shows the horses with their decorative harnesses on their bodies.

The final class is the ridden class where the riders put these magnificent horses through their paces in the ring. The Lord Provost will present the prizes at the prize giving ceremony before the Grand Parade at 4pm.

The Lord and Lady Provost will also attend the Aberdeen Highland Pony Show at 2pm on Sunday [24 August] at the Duthie Park.

Organised by North East of Scotland Highland Pony Enthusiast Society (NESHPES) the Aberdeen Highland Pony Show is now one of the most prestigious and best supported Highland Pony Shows in Scotland.

The daylong event starts at 9am and finishes at 4pm.

Highland Ponies come from all over Scotland to compete in in-hand, ridden, dressage, young handlers, working harness and fancy dress classes.

This year’s show will see the introduction of a new championship class, the NESHPES Best Member Rosette Championship final.

The Championship invites members who have qualified at local shows throughout the north-east to the show to compete for the championship.
