Fused glass art work to on show at Cove Library

06/06/06

Fused glass artworks created by the young people of Cove are to be officially unveiled at the local library tomorrow (Wednesday).

Aberdeen City Council's Arts Development team worked with around 100 pupils from Loirston and Charleston Schools on the project, to celebrate the opening of the new Cove Library.

Last year, the children took part in a series of workshops where they created large scale drawings, designs, digital images and fused glass squares, themed around the local heritage of Cove.

The participants generated a fantastic amount of material, which was used to pull together one design that depicts Cove Harbour, houses, boats, fishermen, seagulls and fish.

Further workshops followed with smaller focused art groups, where they manipulated digital images, painted designs directly on to turquoise glass with enamels and then cut and prepared fibre paper shapes for the glass strips to be draped over.

The finished fused glass panels are being installed in Cove Library, where they can be permanently admired by the local community.

They will be officially unveiled at 10am tomorrow at Cove Library on Loirston Avenue.

This project was made possible through additional funding and support from local Councillor Kate Dean.
