Ground survey in Union Terrace Gardens

10/08/07

Access to part of Union Terrace Gardens will be restricted for much of the rest of this month.

Contractors will start digging bore holes on the steep slope below Union Terrace on Monday [Aug 13] to allow for an assessment of ground conditions at the site earmarked for a new arts centre.

Peacock Visual Arts has applied for planning permission to create a contemporary arts centre in the gardens and has asked consultants Ian Farmer Associates to report on the physical conditions of the land.

Work is likely to start at about 9am on Monday and will continue until August 29. The areas where the contractors are working will be fenced off and the ground will be reinstated on completion of the job. No costs will be picked up by Aberdeen City Council.

All other parts of the gardens will remain open to the public.
