Shell U.K Limited donates works of art to city gallery

To celebrate its 25th year of sponsoring the Aberdeen Artists Society exhibition Shell U.K. Limited will donate artwork it has purchased from the exhibition to Aberdeen Art Gallerys permanent collection on Wednesday, 7 May, 2008.
The pieces are:
- No 174 Katharine Aarrestad "This is the end of you" Mixed media (artist based in Edinburgh)
- No 124 Vivien Moir "We shall eat" ceramic (Dundee artist now based in Dumbarton)
- No 125 Vivien Moir " Most Beautiful Flower" ceramic
- No 23 William Reid "Striation" mixed media (Peterhead artist now based in Aberdeen)
The Aberdeen Artists Society exhibition, the largest of its kind in the North of Scotland, offers professional, established, amateur and emerging artists from across the country the opportunity to display their work in the splendid setting of Aberdeen Art Gallery. The exhibition is open to the public until Saturday, 31 May.
Submissions were received from all over Scotland, not just Aberdeen and the North East, and works on show include a number by established artists of national and international renown such as Alexander Fraser, Joyce Cairns, Michael Waight, Tracey Johnston, Barry McGlashan, David Henderson and Francis Walker.
Art Gallery & Museums manager Christine Rew said: We are delighted to receive these generous gifts to our collections from Shell U.K. Limited, marking the company's 25 years of support to Aberdeen Artists Society. This group of works from three Scottish artists will enhance our Fine Art and Applied Art Collections and allow us to demonstrate our longstanding connection with the Aberdeen Artists Society and its objective of encouraging contemporary art in the North East.

We hope the community will be able to appreciate these works of art in the Gallery for many years to come.
