Get wired for sound at exciting new Wireless exhibition at the Maritime
13/11/08
Wireless, an exciting new exhibition which examines the history of radio technology opens to the public on Saturday, 15 November, at Aberdeens Maritime Museum, Shiprow.
The exhibition reveals how the development of radio changed the way we see the world, how we use the space within our homes and what we do with our spare time.
On display are items from the museums collections and contributions from the BBC. Highlights include early crystal sets, transistor radios from the 1950s and 60s and the JVC Videosphere from the 70s, now a kitsch icon.
Curator of the exhibition, Jenny Brown, assistant keeper (Industry) said: "This has been a great opportunity to display some little-seen gems from the citys museums collection. The exhibition features some remarkable radios and televisions and there is sure to be something of interest for everyone.
We are also keen to hear from anyone who has a story or items relating specifically to radios, televisions or broadcasting in the city which we could add to our collection.
The exhibition will run until Saturday, 1 March, 2009.
