Aberdeen Winter Festival road restrictions

The following road closures and restrictions will be in place this Sunday [16, November] when Santa visit’s Aberdeen and during the switch on of the city’s new Christmas lights on Union Street.

The festive fun will get underway at 12noon when Santa arrives at the Castlegate, Aberdeen.  Santa on his sleigh, pulled by his trusted reindeers will travel up Union Street to The Mall shopping centre.  While at The Mall children who have been good all year will get to see Santa’s reindeers up close until 1pm approximately. 

Later in the day the city’s new Christmas lights will be switched on as the Lord Provost Peter Stephen leads a Notting Hill Carnival style parade with musical street entertainers along the main thoroughfare in the city.

The parade will set off from Albyn Place at 5.30pm then head along Union Street and will end at the Castlegate at approximately 6pm.

• King Street from its junction with East/West North Street to Castle Street
• Castle Street (full length)
• Union Street from its junction with Broad Street to its junction with Union Terrace/Bridge Street
Revocations
Revoke right turn ban from King Street into West North Street

Road Closures
From 4.30pm to 6pm
• Albyn Place from its junction with Albyn Grove to its junction with Holburn Street
From 5pm to 6.30pm
• Union Street (full length)
• Castle Street (full length)
• King Street from its junction with Castle Street to its junction with East/West North Street
Revocations
From 4.30pm to 6pm
Revoke right turn ban from King Street into West North Street
Revoke right turn ban from Holburn Street into Willowbank Road FOR BUSES ONLY.
