Public consultation into Kingswells to Bucksburn path link
01/09/08
Aberdeen City Council is seeking the publics views on the options for a new or improved path linking Kingswells and Bucksburn.
The council has for some time been receiving requests from members of the two communities for a path link between the areas.
The Neighbourhood Community Action Plans for both Kingswells and Bucksburn, which were developed following extensive public consultation, identify a need for better walking and cycling links between the two communities.
One of the main reasons this path is sought after is so that children from Kingswells, who are zoned to the forthcoming Bucksburn Academy, will be able to cycle to school.
Last year the council began to consult key stakeholders on the possibility of providing a new or improved walking and cycling route between the two communities.
Following this consultation, route options were identified and their feasibility assessed. Two possible route corridors have now been identified.
The council has now launched a public consultation to measure the wider communitys opinions on the route options, to ensure any new path is something which people want and will use. We would like to hear your views on all aspects of both corridors, from directness and hills, to lighting and landscape.
Option one is a completely new path following alongside the Newhills road. It would be 2.7kilometres long and involve a total climb of 65metres from Bucksburn to Kingswells, or 20metres from Kingswells to Bucksburn.
It would pass mainly through farmland adjacent to the road crossing a number of farm access roads and small burns.
Option two is a mixture of new and upgraded existing paths crossing farmland. It would be two kilometres long and involve a 40metre total climb from Bucksburn to Kingswells, or 10metres from Kingswells to Bucksburn.
The new path would cross the Bucks Burn and pass through farmland and community woodland.
