Race Equality Scheme

02/12/08

A document strengthening Aberdeen City Council’s commitment to promoting race equality has been published.

The Race Equality Scheme explains what the council is doing to prevent discrimination and promote equality in the city, setting out a number of actions both general and specific.

The scheme includes the reviewed assessment of functions and policies and proposed policies that are relevant to the General Duty under the Race Relations Act and an Action Plan for the next three years.

Besides being a statutory requirement the Race Equality Scheme and Action Plan is the key driver to improve equality of opportunity and to promote good relations between people of different racial groups.

The Race Equality Scheme also sets out what Aberdeen City Council will do to eliminate unlawful racial discrimination.

This supersedes the previous scheme which was current between 2005 and 2008.
