City’s Christmas tree switch on at the Castlegate

The City of Aberdeens Christmas tree will be switched on following a service of festive song, music and prayer which starts at 4pm on Sunday, 30 November, at the Castlegate.
The Christmas tree gifted by the people of Aberdeens twin City of Stavanger will be switched on by Lord Provost Peter Stephen and Stavanger City Councillor Mr Odd Kristian Reme.
Piper Adam Butler (15) of the Portlethen Pipe Band will get the event underway with performances from the Young Persons Choir and the Salvation Army band. There will be readings in English, Gaelic and Norwegian, carols and blessings.
Those taking part include Stephen Taylor, Minister of the Kirk of St Nicholas Uniting, Richard Kilgour, Provost of St Andrews Episcopal Cathedral [King Street], Jostein Handal, Chaplain of the Norwegian Seamans Mission representing the Church of Norway in Scotland, Chris Brannan priest and administrator of St Marys Cathedral, [Huntly Street], David Alton, Captain of the Salvation Army and leader of the Aberdeen Citadel.
The event will last approximately 30 minutes.
