Reel Futures

Do you have a passion for film and media? Are you into arts and culture? Are you looking to cultivate your experience within film making, build your CV and experience or simply do something new? Then look no further and volunteer as part of Aberdeen City libraries' exciting creative Reel Futures film project!

Following a successful funding bid Aberdeen City Libraries are delighted to offer the chance for young people aged 16-25 to join us on this exciting opportunity for film fanatics with an interest in media to build and showcase their talents. From generating and researching ideas, storyboarding, budgeting to filming, editing and marketing, you’ll play a key role in the development and creation of films dedicated to promoting Aberdeen City Libraries.

The project runs until March 2018.

Key objectives of project

  • To create film resources promoting the benefits of thFilm2 e library service to as wide an audience as possible.
  • To highlight the range of services available to young people to aid enterprise.
  • To raise the skills profile of the young people participating to enable them to enjoy better life chances.
  • To develop the interests of young people in the creative industries as consumers as well as highlighting possible employment options.
  • To encourage the young people involved to continue working together after the initial project has ended.



Main Tasks

In partnership with a dedicated Project Co-ordinator, the young people will undertake a range of activities including:

  • Co-design and manage aspects of the project itself. film1
  • Determine partnership links for expert assistance as required.
  • Gain skills in a range of areas including marketing and intellectual property.
  • Co-produce 2 films on set topics.
  • Co-design and co-produce a further film on a relevant topic chosen by the group.



Where appropriate eligible participants can gain recognition for their participation via recognised award schemes such as Saltire Awards or the Duke Of Edinburgh’s Award.
