Aberdeen City Libraries supports a range of local and national reading promotions for Children, Young People and Adults. For more information, please select the relevant promotion.
With a different certificate each month, Bookbug's Library Challenge encourages young children from birth to discover and enjoy their local library. It is run in all libraries across Aberdeen City and it's a fun and exciting way to give your child a love of reading for life.
Bookbug Week in Scotland
An annual celebration of Bookbug! Join us between 18-24 May with free events for families and children. This year's theme is 'Bookbug's Big Bedtime Story'
During the summer holidays, Aberdeen City Libraries runs the Tesco Bank Summer Reading Challenge Scotland which encourages children aged 4-12 to read 6 library books. With a different theme each year, the Challenge is a great way to get children to continue reading over the holidays and as an added incentive, children can collect rewards along the way.
Each March children of all ages can join the fun and celebrate reading when we take part in World Book Day
23rd April is World Book Night. Encouraging people to share their love of reading, we'll be celebrating with free events for all ages.
During that last week in November, Aberdeen City Libraries will join libraries across Scotland to celebrate all things books and reading related!
From World Book Night until Book Week Scotland, Aberdeen City Libraries will participate in the national adult reading promotion encouraging people to celebrate the Year of History, Heritage and Archaeology with a great read from their library and take part in the review competition.
This Autumn #LovetoRead will be taking over the schedules on television and radio to celebrate the joy of reading!
