How can we help you...

Searching the Library Catalogue

To search for items (books, CDs, DVDs etc) stocked by the branches and departments of Aberdeen City Libraries enter author/artist or title details in the search grid and click search. If you are not sure of/only know part of a title or author's name, you can search by keyword. This will display all items that have the keyword in a title or author/artist's name.

If you are only interested in items that are stocked in a specific location e.g. Airyhall, Media Centre, the search can be limited by clicking on the arrow next to Library Site and choosing appropriate branch/department by clicking on the name.

The search can also be limited to some types of items e.g. Large Print Books, CDs and Talking Books by clicking on the arrow next to Collection and choosing from the list of collections displayed.

You can further limit a search by selecting the Advanced Search tab at the top of the search page and entering combinations of different search terms on the page.In addition to Collection and Library Site it is possible to search by the year or range of years in which an item was published. For example, if you are interested in books by a certain author but would only like to see more recent titles, you can enter a range of years (2009-2010) or type in a specific year (2010).

Other options include language the material is written in and, for media items, the format of the item i.e. CD, DVD, Video.Another option available is how many results you would like to see displayed on a page.

Once you have found the item you are looking for, by clicking on "show copies" you can find more information about it:

  • how many copies we have
  • where they are held
  • if they are available or out on loan
  • if on loan, when the item is due to be returned.

If you click on "show details" tab you can find out if reservations have been placed for the copy.If you require a summary of the item click on the title.

Results can be sorted by title, author or date (A-Z or Z-A) by clicking on the arrow in Sort By box.

Previous and next icons enable you to toggle between multiple pages or titles and records. To return to your original results page click on search button in the search grid at the top of the page.

Please note the print record option is not available on Library Catalogue (OPAC) PCs.

If a copy is on loan or not available at the location near you, a reservation can be placed for it online.Select the Place Request tab on top of the screen or click on request box on the right hand side of the item, and follow instructions. You will need your library card number and your PIN.Adult borrowers will have a reservation charge payable on collection of the item.
