Information Zone
What's in the Information Zone?
Within the Zone you will find all the resources of a
traditional Reference Library along with newer ones including Online Resources, Europe Direct and Ask A Librarian.
How is the Service Provided?
Staff in the Information Service support and liaise with colleagues throughout the Library Service to provide a range of services as indicated in the listing on the right.
Where is the Information Service?
We are located within the Information Centre on the upper floor of the Central Library which is fully accessible to disabled visitors by way of the ramped entrance and lift (accessed via the ramped entrance at the east end of the building).

Do We Provide Remote Access?
Increasingly many of our resources are being provided electronically whether within our libraries or, in many cases, directly to Library Members wherever they do their internet surfing. Central Library Information Centre
Catalogue
All Information Service books and pamphlets added to stock after 1993 can be found on the on-line catalogue. Go to: Library Catalogue Please ask staff to check for items acquired prior to 1993.
Newspapers, Journals and Magazines
We have a collection of current journals covering a broad range of topics including science, engineering, management, Scottish and general interest.
Fax Facilities
- Send within the UK and Europe £1.20 for 1st. page; 60p. per page thereafter.
- Send elsewhere £2.10 for 1st. page: £1.20 per page thereafter.
- Receive (from anywhere) £1.20 for 1st. page; 30p. per page thereafter
Photocopying
Photocopying of materials held within the Information Service will be done by staff of behalf of patrons. The provisions of Copyright Law will be strrictly observed.
Computing Facilities
There are a number of PCs available for use which are, however, not bookable in advance. .
Local Studies Service
We share the floor of the Information Centre with our colleagues in the Local Studies Service. Visit and explore the Local Studies page
Public Announcement
When staffing is reduced it it may not always be possible to retrieve items from our Reserve Stock areas. Periods which be be affected are from 12 - 2pm., and the evenings of Monday and Wednesday from 5.30 - 8pm.
We regret any inconvenience caused and ask that, where possible, you request any such material in advance of your visit. Please contact us using the details given in right hand column.
