Aberdeen's Highland Games

Aberdeen's Highland Games will be celebrating it's 50 year at the 2010 games. The event takes place in the Games Field at Hazlehead Park and always on the third Sunday in June (19th June 2011).

The Games are an integral part of the Grampian Games circuit and delivered under the auspices of the Scottish Games Association. 

The event opening times are 10.00am to 5.30p.m.

Adult £6   

Child £3  (17years and under) (under 5years FREE )                                      

Family (2 Adults & up to 2 Children) £15         

Directions to Hazlehead

First Bus also run the no: 14 bus which run to the Hazlehead area.

 

Traditional Highland Games

The event delivers a traditional programme of Highland Games including Scottish 725kg Tug-o-war Championship, heavy and light events, track and field events, dancing, pipe bands and solo piping competitions.

Entry to traditional events

The above events require the participant to register on the day at the area of the games field used by that event. It is advised that you register no later than 1 hour before your event. More information will be available on the day from the Games Office.

  • Pipe bands.

Bands wishing to compete must have pre registered with the RSPBA via the North of Scotland Branch.

All competitors wishing to take part in the running, light field and heavyweight events MUST be registered with the SHGA prior to competing.

Unregistered athletes are not entitled to any cover under the SHGA's Personal Injury Insurance Scheme (which covers all athletes up to 75yrs old). Membership of amateur clubs should be declared on the application form and members must wear club vests.

Family Entertainment

A family entertainment programme has been developed to enhance your Games experience through special displays, demonstrations and activities that will take place throughout the day within various areas of the Games venue.

Activities to look for are listed below, we are continually looking to enhance these further for the 2011 games.

  • Balloon modelling walk-about performers 
  • Bungie Trampolines (FREE).
  • Big Rory and Ochie (see picture above).
  • British Army activities(Army zone).
  • Craft activities - 
  • Climbing Walls (FREE, timed slots). 
  • Eco City Family challenges (Eco City marquee)

  •  Golf putting challenge - Provided by Inchmarlo Resort & Golf Centre. Hole in one prizes. www.inchmarlo.com
  • Techfest activity marquee (FREE, unfortunately items can not be taken home). www.techfestsetpoint.org.uk
  • Treasure Trails - (FREE, contained within the Games programme)take part in a highland games treasure hunt within the Games field. Complete the trail for a chance to win prizes on the day. www.treasuretrails.co.uk
  • Wallace 700 and Medieval Realm (Medieval village, family arena).
