Role
The role of City Warden is to provide a flexible service, working at the grass roots level and responding to the needs of the community across Aberdeen.
City Wardens are specially trained and uniformed, approachable, responsive and contactable. They provide a highly visible, reassuring presence and tackle problems that matter to most local people.
The Wardens duties will cover a wide range of issues including; litter, graffiti, fly-posting, nuisance parking, leaflet distribution, dog fouling and bins on streets. They will also observe and report any other issues relating to Aberdeen City.
The wardens will develop links with communities and other local services. They will be briefed daily to ensure they patrol specific areas and problems. The City Wardens will be approachable and informative to the local community and visitors alike.

What is a City Warden?
- City Wardens incorporate the former separate roles and services of Environmental Wardens, Community Wardens and Parking Enforcement Officers. City Wardens are here to make your neighbourhood a safer and cleaner place. We want to work with the public to deal with the things that matter to you in your community.
How can I recognise a City Warden?
- While on duty, City Wardens wear a uniform consisting of a high visibility black and yellow jacket. The jacket has the words 'City Warden' or 'Senior City Warden' prominently displayed on the back and the City Warden logo on the front. In summer their shirt epaulettes will say City Warden and their ties carry the logo too. Their hats are very distinctive too as they have blue and white checked bands.
How many wardens do we have?
- There will be 74 City Wardens in Aberdeen. This means that there will be more Wardens patrolling in more areas in the city.
What authority do City Wardens have?
- The City Wardens use their enforcement powers when appropriate and take immediate action on such issues including littering and rogue parking.
Does the City Warden scheme cover all areas of Aberdeen?
- City Wardens patrol all areas of the city.
What times do Wardens work?
- City Wardens will be patrolling from 7am - 10.30pm 7 days a week. Additionally the Wardens will work outside these hours to deal with any relevant issues.
