Grants available for young people to get creative
11/03/13
Young people are being invited to get creative and earn grant funding for innovative activities which contribute to the life of the city.
Applications are being sought for the latest round of Aberdeen City Council's successful Youth Activities Small Grants for 2013/14.
The fund, established in 2005, offers young people the chance to apply for funding to develop and take part in activities that might not be currently available to them. Successful applicants are likely to benefit in terms of gaining experience, confidence and skills.
Applications will be considered by members of the Aberdeen City Youth Council and councillors from across the city.
Convener of Education, Culture and Sport Councillor Jenny Laing said: "The grant scheme enables young people to make a real difference in their own communities while at the same time doing something creative for their own benefit. I really hope organisations come forward and apply for money in the latest round of grants."
The criteria for grant funding have been left open so that applicants are bound only by their own imaginations, but the following conditions apply:
children and young people must be actively involved in making the application and in the project idea;
funding is not available for individuals;
group members must live in Aberdeen;
groups applying for funding must be a voluntary organisation as defined by the Council's Voluntary Sector Policy;
applicants will be voluntary, community and school groups working with children and young people aged 12-25 years;
staff costs will not normally be funded;
the usual maximum grant is £1,500;
one award will be made per group per year;
priority will be given to first-time applicants;
for groups receiving grants in previous years consideration will be given to applications to further develop previously funded ideas or for new projects;
applications must not duplicate diversionary activities supported through the Community Safety Partnership, the Aberdeen City Alcohol & Drugs Partnership, the Communities Youth Work Team or Enterprise in Education.
The closing date for applications is Tuesday 02 April and activities must be scheduled to take place after Thursday 16 April. Full details of the Youth Activities Small Grants and copies of the application form are available on the Aberdeen City Council website.
