19/12/08
The Christmas tree in the Castlegate, Aberdeen has been vandalised and the star stolen sometime after 10.30pm on Sunday, 14 December. The matter has been reported to the police and enquiries are ongoing.Aberdeen City Council's marketing and events manager Dawn Schultz said: "We are very disappointed that the Christmas tree that was gifted from twin City of Stavanger has been vandalised. We would urge anyone with information to assist.
"The tree is given into the care of the citizens of Aberdeen in recognition of the strong relationship the two cities have established over the years so it is very sad to see it treated in this manner when it is there for the enjoyment of all."
The Christmas tree was switched on by the Lord Provost of Aberdeen Peter Stephen and Stavanger City Councillor Mr Odd Kristian Reme on Sunday, 30 November.
