City Council appoints new finance chief

Aberdeen City Council has appointed Steve Whyte as preferred candidate for the position of Head of Finance.

He has been promoted to the post from his current position as Chief Accountant and has been acting Head of Finance since early summer.

University of Aberdeen-educated Steve has been with the City Council since it was formed in 1996 and worked previously for its predecessor organisation, Grampian Regional Council. He has worked his way up the professional ranks after joining Grampian as a trainee accountant.

The appointment remains subject to the normal pre-employment checks.

Finance convener Councillor Willie Young said: "I am delighted that Steve has been offered the post. He came through an extremely rigorous selection process and I have no doubt that Aberdeen's finances will continue to be in a very safe pair of hands."
