General Election count to be held overnight
16/03/10
Counting of votes for the Aberdeen North and South constituencies will be held overnight after the polls close on election day.
Returning Officer Sue Bruce said: "It is my intention to begin counting the votes cast in the forthcoming General Election as soon as possible after the polls close at 10pm.
"One of the first pieces of work to be completed at the count centre that night will be the processing and validating of any postal votes collected at the polling stations during the latter part of the day. Processing is now more time-consuming than in the past, as each ballot has personal identifiers comprising signature and date of birth which require to be validated.
"Once completed, the count will then be taken to its conclusion at some point in the early hours of the day following polling."
