Refurbishment of local swimming pool gets underway

The refurbishment of Tullos Swimming Pool got underway today [Wednesday 20 March].
Aberdeen City Council's Convener of Education, Culture and Sport Committee Councillor Jenny Laing joined representatives of Torry Community Council at the pool to mark the occasion and to get a walk-through of the planned work for the local amenity.
Robertson Construction Eastern Limited was awarded the contract to carry out the work which will include:
- retiling of both pools and poolside areas;
- repair of all water damage and redecoration of all internal walls;
- replacement of the old changing area and basket clothes storage with a modern changing area with attractive cubicles and lockers;
- reconfiguration of the entrance area to create a more inviting and obvious entrance from the front of the building;
- creation of a welcoming and accessible reception area with noticeboards and vending machines;
- new toilets;
- reconfiguration of spectator seating to meet disability access requirements.
The target completion date is autumn 2013.
Aberdeen City Council's Convener of Education, Culture and Sport Committee Councillor Jenny Laing said: I'm delighted that representatives of Torry Community Council were able to join me on a tour of the site today to hear firsthand details of the refurbishment work planned.
"The Council has been keen to keep the local community informed on the development and while the refurbishment is carried out we will continue to engage with individuals and groups in Torry to develop a programme for the facility, which best meets local needs.The pool is going to be a great local asset and I am looking forward to coming back when it opens later in the year."
Keith Taylor, regional managing director of Robertson, said: "We are pleased to be involved with the refurbishment of Tullos swimming pool, which will be a great asset for the Torry area."
"We look forward to starting on site very soon and will ensure the local community is kept fully up to date with our progress throughout the construction phase."
Sport Aberdeen will manage the swimming pool on behalf of Aberdeen City Council.
