Welcome in the new year with lunchtime talks and music

Enjoy a little afternoon music as the popular series of free lunchtime concerts continues in the new year in the Cowdray Hall, Aberdeen.

Under the artistic direction of Roger B Williams, the series includes short introductory talks which focus on music styles and composers.

Well-known and popular pianist Joseph Long will give a short talk on the music of Rachmaninov.

Admission to the concerts is free although donations are welcome. A sandwich lunch, provided by the Friends of Aberdeen Art Gallery & Museums, can be purchased on Thursdays only.

Free lunchtime talks organised by Aberdeen Art Gallery & Museums also continue in the new year.

The series takes place at 12.30pm every Wednesday, each talk lasting approximately 30 minutes. Admission is free but booking is essential for some talks; information and contact telephone numbers for bookings are listed below.

Gary Hume: Flashback
Wednesday 9 January
12.30pm-1pm, Aberdeen Art Gallery, Schoolhill
Aberdeen Art Gallery learning manager Fiona Mair will give a talk on the work of Gary Hume, whose exhibition Flashback is on show at the gallery until Saturday 19 January.

Silver – the Aberdeen story
Wednesday 16 January
12.30pm-1pm, Aberdeen Art Gallery, Schoolhill
Christine Rew, manager of Aberdeen Art Gallery & Museums, will talk on the history of silver from an Aberdeen perspective to coincide with the exhibition on show at the gallery until Saturday 03 March.

The History of Kingswells

12.30pm-1pm, Aberdeen Maritime Museum, Shiprow
Chris Croly, historian with Aberdeen Art Gallery & Museums, will give an illustrated talk on the history of Kingswells which local residents and those living further afield are bound to find interesting. Booking is essential for this talk. Please telephone (01224) 337714 to reserve a place.

The Rettie Bracelet: the inside story
