Sportsperson of the Year award nominations close

The closing date for nominations for the 2009 Sports Person of the Year awards, which recognise excellence in sport and showcase the sporting talent of Aberdeen City and Shire, has passed.
The Sports Person of the Year awards is made up of three awarding bodies Aberdeen City Council, Chris Anderson Trust and Aberdeen Sports Council.
The council presents awards for Sports Person of the Year and the Lord Provost's volunteer of the year category.
Aberdeen City Council awards recognise performance in the national or international arena by an athlete aged 18 and over during 2009. Nominees must either be resident in Aberdeen or a member of a city-based club.
Last year's winner was David Florence (Canoe) Olympic Silver Medallist, with fellow Olympians Alistair McGregor (Hockey) and Robbie Renwick (Swimming) second and third respectively.
The Chris Anderson Trust recognises junior achievement for those aged 17 and under during 2009 from Aberdeen City, Shire and Moray.
Last year's winner, tennis player Joanna Henderson, is competing at under18 and senior level international tennis.
Aberdeen Sports Council has 10 awards which include:
- junior boys;
- junior girls;
- amateur female;
- amateur male;
- disability sport female;
- disability sport male;
- coach;
- veterans;
- team;
- club person.
Award nominees must be members of clubs affiliated to the sports council.
The winners will be presented with their awards on Friday, 30 April 2010.
