Contemporary Finnish silversmithing comes to Aberdeen

An exhibition which features unique one-off and limited edition pieces of recent works by a selection of Finnish silversmiths has opened at Aberdeen Art Gallery.

Taidolla or 'With Art' gives a broad overview of contemporary Finnish silversmithing and illustrates the versatile nature of silver, the designers' own visions and the high quality of traditional craftsmanship.

Alison Fraser, keeper (applied art) at Aberdeen Art Gallery, said: "This is a rare opportunity for visitors to Aberdeen Art Gallery to see the work of Finnish silversmiths. The objects in the display have a cool, Nordic feel, perfect for the time of year. Exquisite craftsmanship and elegant design make this an exciting show, combining traditional and modern techniques."

Taidolla is accompanied by a book on contemporary Finnish silversmithing.

The exhibition which is presented in collaboration with the Finnish Silversmiths Association runs until Saturday, 14 March 2009.
