Free lunchtime talk on artist Samuel Peploe
A free lunchtime talk will be presented on Wednesday 09 October on the world-renowned Scottish artist Samuel Peploe.
The talk, presented by National Galleries of Scotland Doughty Hanson assistant curator Rachel Smith, will focus on Peploe's early 20th century works depicting Kircudbright in south-west Scotland.
Peploe was the most successful of the four artists popularly known as 'The Scottish Colourists', along with FCB Cadell, JD Fergusson and GL Hunter.
The talk at Aberdeen Art Gallery will start at 12.30pm and finish at about 1.15pm, and is linked to the current National Galleries of Scotland-organised exhibition in the gallery of 70 works by the artist. 'The Scottish Colourist Series: SJ Peploe' opened in July and closes on 19 October, and features still life paintings and depictions of the Scottish and French landscape.
The exhibition features painting from public and private collections, and original objects used in Peploe's still life arrangements from the retrospective recently held at the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art. Aberdeen Art Gallery has a substantial collection of paintings by Peploe, eight of which are included in the exhibition.
Aberdeen Art Gallery is open TuesdaySaturday 10am-5pm, and Sunday 2-5pm.
