Putting Aberdeen women on the map
All over Scotland in towns, villages and in the countryside, there are many types of memorials, large and small that commemorate the lives and achievements of women.
Mapping Memorials to Women in Scotland is a new initiative which aims to locate and record these memorials to women throughout the nation.
Aberdeen Women's Alliance in partnership with Glasgow Women's Library and Aberdeen City Libraries have organised a training session for anyone interested in helping to record the memorials to women in the North-east of Scotland.
Morag Smith from Glasgow Women's Library will host the seminar from 6pm to 8pm on Wednesday 13 February in the Media Centre, at Aberdeen Central Library, Rosemount Viaduct.
Places are limited so advance booking is required by telephoning (01224) 652500 or email firstname.lastname@example.org Teas, coffees and sandwiches will be available from 6pm.
Aberdeen City Councillor Lesley Dunbar, who is a member of the Aberdeen Women's Alliance and initiated the Central Library's involvement in the project, said: 'This is an excellent opportunity to get women who have a memorial to them in Aberdeen onto the Mapping Women's Memorials website.
"This is also the first time Glasgow Women's Library, the Central Library and Aberdeen Women's Alliance have worked together to make this seminar happen so it really is an opportunity not to be missed."
The memorials are being logged on the Women of Scotland website at www.womenofscotland.org.uk
