Hazlewood School inspection

25/06/09

Following a visit from HM Inspectors of Education a report has been published on Hazlewood School.

During the visit in April Inspectors praised the forward-thinking leadership of the headteacher and the positive relationships and teamwork across the school.

Inspectors praised pupils' involvement in a wide range of learning experiences in the school and the wider community.

It was highlighted that staff work closely with families to support young people in a caring environment and that youngsters of all ages are able to air their views and contribute to school issues.

Areas identified for improvement included improving transition arrangements for youngsters leaving school and making better use of learning time through more challenging teaching approaches.

Culture and Learning director John Tomlinson said: "I was pleased to see that the strong leadership within the school was recognised as well as the very clear focus on innovation and improvement.

"The priority given to health and wellbeing is excellent as well as the two hours of high-quality physical education.

"I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all staff, pupils and parents for their commitment and enthusiasm.

"We will work with the school to address the areas identified for improvement."
