15/06/11
The 51st Aberdeen Highland Games will take place on Sunday 19 June at Hazlehead Park from 10am to 5.30pm.
More than 10,000 visitors are expected to attend the games this weekend, which alongside the sporting events will feature fine displays of traditional dancing and the rousing sounds of pipe bands.
There will also be a range of family activities including a high rope activity zone, bike adventure course, nine-hole crazy golf, climbing wall, bungee trampoline and a funfair.
Bestselling author Stuart MacBride will also be making a special guest appearance in the storytelling corner.
Senior events officer Bill Farquhar said: "The Highland Games are always a great deal of fun for people of all ages.
"The games were founded nearly 200 years ago and have remained relatively unchanged, keeping them at the heart of Scotland's traditions.
"The competitive element is still central to modern games, and this weekend in Aberdeen is no different with tug of war championships, heavy and light events and track and field events all planned."
