Report published on Harlaw Academy

Following a visit from HM Inspectors of Education a report has been published on Harlaw Academy.
During the visit inspectors highlighted a number of strengths including the overall levels of attainment in national examinations and the positive relationships between staff and pupils.
The report noted that by the end of S4 results in examinations were in line with the national average and that there was clear evidence that pupils were making strong progress.
By the end of S6 performance at Higher and Advanced Higher were consistently above the national average.
Inspectors highlighted that a significant number pupils were developing confidence and important life skills through a variety of courses at Aberdeen College.
There were also found to be effective links with local businesses bringing work skills into programmes within the curriculum.
The report said the school is committed to enabling all young people to achieve success. Staff were found to have high expectations of behaviour and effort and celebrate all achievements.
It was noted that the headteacher had a very clear vision for the school and had shared this very successfully with the local community.
Director of Education, Culture and Sport Annette Bruton said: "I am pleased to see the strengths identified in this report, particularly the attainment at S4 and the consistently above-average attainment in the advanced examinations.
"The positive relationship between young people and staff make for an effective learning environment and the partnership working with outside bodies help to improve outcomes for pupils.
"I note the areas identified for improvement and will ensure that my senior management team works closely with the school to address them."
