Aberdeen to flourish as City Councilís Garden Competition officially launched
Green-fingered residents are gearing up for the annual Aberdeen in Bloom Garden Competition, which showcases some of the finest floral displays in the city.
The event is open to residents, businesses and schools with entries assessed on design, quality of horticultural features and displays and standards of maintenance.
Sustainable and biodiversity initiatives, such as projects to conserve energy or encourage wildlife, are also judged.
The schools category is open to primary and secondary schools that have developed an area within their grounds, providing a horticultural display that adds educational value to the pupils and social improvement to the school.
Competition entry forms have been posted to previous entrants and are also available at libraries and community centres throughout the city.
The closing date for entries is 18 July. Judging will take place from 28 July to 08 August.
Winners will be presented with their awards at a reception in September.
Aberdeen City Council is grateful for sponsorship for this year's competition from Balmoral Group Holdings Ltd, Country Ways, Michies the Chemists, Internet for Business, Ben Reid Garden Centre and Parkhill Garden Centre.
