How can we help you...

Council seeking would-be foster carers to come forward

Aberdeen City Council's Fostering Team has organised an Information Evening for people interested in becoming a foster carer.

The event will take place on 7 November (Wednesday) and is open to all members of the public from 7pm to 9pm at the Rox Hotel on Market Street.

The Fostering Team want anyone who thinks they can help provide care and support for children in the city to come forward and find out more about Foster caring. Staff from the fostering team will be on hand to answer any questions and provide information about the rewarding and fulfilling aspects of becoming a foster carer.

Nicola Clark, from Aberdeen City Council's Adoption and Fostering Recruitment Team, said: "We really do want to see as many people as we possibly can.

"Our carers come from all walks of life, some have children and some don't. We have single carers and others in relationship and we have some carers who have had experience of working with children and some who don't. One thing they all have in common is the motivation to care for children and help them achieve their potential. We really do want to encourage anyone who has ever considered fostering or wanted to know a bit more to come and see us.

"It's a very informal setting so that foster carers and staff from the fostering team can discuss one-to-one what being a foster carer entails and answer any questions anyone might have.

"It's a hugely rewarding role personally and the efforts of our foster carers have helped countless children through the years, who have all benefited massively from the care and support of foster carers.

"We want people who feel that fostering is something they could consider to take the next step, come along and talk to the team to learn more about how they can become foster carers to the city's children, who need their support."

In order to help make the evening as successful as possible advance booking would be appreciated but everyone is welcome to simply come along on the night.
