Free fitness sessions for over-60s


Free fitness sessions for folk aged over 60 have been lined up by Aberdeen City Council.

'Circuits for Seniors' will run at Aberdeen Sports Village, Linksfield Road, to help people build their strength and provide cardio-vascular exercise training to keep folk fit and active.

The classes are designed for all abilities and run from 2.30–3.30pm each Tuesday from 14 January until 11 February, and from 10.30–11.30am each Wednesday from 15 January until 12 February.

Twice-weekly badminton classes for the over-60s of all abilities are also being launched at the Sports Village – on Mondays starting on 13 January 11am–12noon, and 2–3pm on Fridays from 17 January.

Badminton can bring big health benefits, including losing weight, reducing the risk of heart disease, improving balance and coordination, increasing the range of movement, and boosting core stability and stamina.

The initiatives are part of efforts by the Aberdeen City Council Social Care and Wellbeing team to provide a wide range of opportunities for older people to stay active.
