City finance team wins awards ‘treble’

Aberdeen City Council's finance team has lifted its third top award of the year.

The team won the Corporate Governance Award at the UK-wide LGC Investment Awards after being recognised as the team which has done the most to enhance corporate governance during the last year, covering general financial and management achievements.

In June the team was named the best in the Scottish public sector for the second year in a row at the Scottish Accountancy Awards.

Aberdeen City Council won the Outstanding Contribution title at the Accounts Payable News Awards in October, with financial services manager Garry Stevens also lifting the individual award as APN Manager of the Year.

Finance, Policy and Resources convener Councillor Willie Young said: "This has been a year of remarkable achievement for our finance officials, which has seen them recognised across Scotland and the rest of the UK.

"These awards are a tribute to the exceptional talent in the team and the professional way in which they look after the city's finances. The citizens of Aberdeen can be truly proud that they have the best in the country looking after the city's financial affairs."

The LGC investment Awards gala dinner was held in the Grand Connaught Rooms in London. Aberdeen City Council was up against Buckinghamshire County Council, Cheshire West and Chester Council, London Borough of Hackney, London Pensions Fund Authority, St Helens Council, Staffordshire County Council and Surrey County Council.
