Blooming marvellous awards for Aberdeen and Dyce

Aberdeen City and the area of Dyce have picked up the highest accolade at the 15th Communities in Bloom National Awards Ceremony, held on Saturday [03 October] in Vaughan, Ontario, Canada.

Coronation Way Flowers.The award ceremony honours municipalities from Canada, England, Ireland, Scotland and Japan.

Judging took place in early August and the City of Aberdeen and the community of Dyce both picked up prestigious awards.

  • International Challenge (large category) - Aberdeen City picked up five Blooms in the international category with a special recognition for business sector contribution to floral displays.
  • International Challenge – (small category) - Dyce was awarded five Blooms with special recognition for volunteer involvement in floral baskets.

Both Councillor Ron Clark Chairman for Aberdeen in Bloom and Aberdeen City Council's environment manager Sandy Scott attended the awards ceremony to represent the city and to collect the awards.

Councillor Clark said: "I'm absolutely delighted the Community of Dyce has been recognised in this way, and that the hard work and effort carried out by residents was rewarded by achieving this award. The dedication of employees, residents, businesses and in particular volunteers has ensured both Dyce and the City were put on the International map."

Sandy Scott added: "The five Blooms award was the highest accolade the judges bestowed in any category so both the city and Dyce did extremely well." Lade Workings

The area of Dyce and the City of Aberdeen were the only Scottish contingent for the Community in Bloom awards.

The overall winner of the International category went to Strathcona County, Canada.

National Chairman Ted Blowes and Raymond Carrière, Président Fondateur, on behalf of the National Committee, judges, and sponsors thanked all the communities for their involvement in the programme.
