City Council appoints Corporate Governance director

Aberdeen City Council has appointed Stewart Carruth as Director of Corporate Governance.
Mr Carruth, will move from his position as Director of Corporate Services at Learning and Teaching Scotland, will take up the post later this summer.
City Council Chief Executive Sue Bruce said: "Stewart will be taking up a key position in the council. He will be part of a new team that is already making great strides towards firmly establishing the city council on a sustainable financial footing. He will oversee major elements of the council's work, including corporate performance, community planning, internal audit and our capital programme. I am delighted to welcome him on board."
City Council leader Councillor Kate Dean commented: "Aberdeen City Council is well on the way to making a fresh start and with Stewart on the team we will continue to drive forward on all fronts. He will make a huge contribution to the work we are doing and will have a pivotal role to play in the progress we are making."
Deputy leader Councillor Kevin Stewart said: "Stewart's broad background in finance, business and top-level management will be key skills as we move the city council forward. We now have a full team of corporate directors in place and the whole city council is now geared up to continue to work tirelessly together for the good of the city."
Mr Carruth, aged 43, studied at the University of Aberdeen and Heriot Watt University and is married with two children, aged nine and five.
He has been responsible at Learning and Teaching Scotland for finance, human resources, organisational development, communications and performance. The Scottish Government-funded organisation provides support, resources and staff development to the education community across Scotland and focuses on developing and maintaining a culture of innovation, ambition and excellence.
Mr Carruth has a background in finance and has also worked as a housing services manager, a senior project services manager and in the field of social enterprise. He has a Masters Degree in economics and accountancy, is a Master of Business Administration and holds a postgraduate diploma in housing. Mr Carruth has worked as a senior manager for PricewaterhouseCoopers and as a project manager for the International Union of Local Authorities.
He said: "I am proud and delighted to have been offered this senior position at Aberdeen City Council. I am looking forward immensely to coming back to Aberdeen, where I studied, and playing my part in making sure this city makes major progress over the next few years."
