Belmont cinema deal takes major step forward

Aberdeen City Council and City Screen (Aberdeen) Ltd are pleased to confirm that following a formal tender process they are in detailed discussions to ensure the ongoing operation of the Belmont Picturehouse.

The City Council intend to extend the lease on the Belmont Picturehouse to City Screen (Aberdeen) Ltd who will continue to operate it when the current lease ends next month.

Alastair Oatey, Director of Operations for City Screen, said: "We are delighted to have reached agreement with Aberdeen City Council, which will ensure that customers can continue to enjoy the Belmont's diverse programme of films for the next 10 years. This is also great news for our staff who were concerned for the cinema's future."

Neil Bruce, Service Manager for Culture and Sport for Aberdeen City Council, said: "The City Council is pleased to confirm that, subject to completion of the contractual paperwork, the future operation of the Belmont has been secured. We have been very conscious of the uncertainty during the tendering process. However we now look forward to developing our partnership with City Screen."
