Marischal College lit up with colours of Belgium flag

One of the most iconic buildings in Aberdeen will be lit up in the colours of the Belgium flag this evening in honour of the victims of the terror attack in Brussels.

The front of Marischal College on Broad Street will turn black, yellow and red today and tomorrow (Wednesday 23 and Thursday 24 March) in tribute to more than 30 people who were killed and many more injured in the attacks yesterday (Tuesday 22 March).

Aberdeen City Council Leader Councillor Jenny Laing said: "It is devastating another attack has taken place just four months after the tragedy that occurred in Paris.

"We welcome the message of reassurance from the Deputy Chief Constable particularly given that at times like these communities may well be anxious.

"Our deepest sympathies and thoughts go to the victims and their families at this sad time."

The historic granite building will be lit from dusk until 10.30pm until Thursday 24 March.
