City Councilís creative partnership aims to encourage Aberdeen artists
An awards scheme to encourage artists resident in Aberdeen will be launched on Monday 28 January.
Aberdeen City Council, in partnership with Creative Scotland, has created the Visual Artists and Craft Awards scheme to support the work of individual artists and encourage innovative professional practice in contemporary arts and crafts.
There are four awards of up to £1,500 available as well as additional benefits and support. Funds can help towards activities that are integral to the artist's personal and professional development, including costs for research, creating or presenting new work, learning news skills or developing technical ability and ideas.
Aberdeen City Council's Convener of Education, Culture and Sport Councillor Jenny Laing, said: "As well as financial support successful applicants will receive exhibition opportunities, profile showcasing and mentoring opportunities with some of the city's leading cultural organisations.
"The Council recognises there is a wealth of creative talent within the city and we are keen to nurture and promote this talent. We believe this scheme offers wonderful development opportunities for emerging artists and we would encourage them to apply."
The scheme is open for application from Monday 28 January. Applications and guidelines can be downloaded from www.aberdeencity.gov.uk/vibrantaberdeen
The closing date for applications is Thursday 07 March 2013.
The Awards panel includes representatives from Aberdeen City Council, Peacock Visual Arts, Grays School of Art and Smart Consultants.
