Renowned local artist in conversation
02/03/10
An evening in conversation with renowned local artist Frances Walker, which has been organised by the Friends of Aberdeen Art Gallery & Museums, will take place at 7.30pm tomorrow [Wednesday, 03 March] at Aberdeen Art Gallery.
Dr John Morrison, of the University of Aberdeen will chat to Frances about her lifelong fascination with wilderness in nature and solitude.
Frances' artwork looks at the forces of nature as a source of sublime solitude. It has frequently been concerned with the meeting place of sea and land, the coastal reaches of rock, sand and deserted beaches.
The conversation will include the idea of solitude as an exploration of self in nature by looking at Frances' most recent series of panoramic landscapes of the Antarctic.
To book a place telephone Aberdeen Art Gallery on (01224) 523700 or email sstill@aberdeencity.gov.uk
Tickets cost £5 each and will also be available at the door.
The exhibition Frances Walker: Observed in Solitude is currently on show at the gallery until Saturday 10 April.
Friends of Aberdeen Art Gallery & Museums have also supported the publication of the new book about Frances Walker and the making of the film which is featured in the exhibition which runs at Aberdeen Art Gallery.
An exhibition of prints by Frances Walker will be shown at Peacock Visual Arts from Saturday, 13 March until Saturday, 24 April 2010.
