Pledge your support for Fairtrade
A local pledge scheme which allows Aberdeen residents show their support for Fairtrade has been launched.
From switching to Fairtrade tea and coffee, or buying a Fairtrade item when you go shopping, the Individual Fairtrade Pledge scheme allows people to show their commitment to Fairtrade.
The scheme will be launched during Fairtrade Fortnight as part of a series of activities taking place in Aberdeen to celebrate 10 years as a Fairtrade City.
To take part you just need to pledge your support using an online form. Simply tick one or more of the options from the pledge list, or add in one of your own.
Fairtrade City status is an award was made to the people of Aberdeen for work to support and promote Fairtrade. Renewal of this status is required every two years by the Fairtrade Foundation. The individual pledge scheme is designed to recognise and acknowledge the commitment from local people which has been crucial in maintaining Aberdeen's Fairtrade City status.
Fairtrade is a guarantee of better prices, decent working conditions, local sustainability, and fair terms of trade for farmers and workers in the developing world. To demonstrate local support, the total numbers for any submitted individual Fairtrade pledges will be published online.
The Individual Fairtrade Pledge Scheme compliments an Organisation Pledge initiative established in 2013. This already provides certification for the many local workplaces, retailers, catering establishments and community organisations supporting Fairtrade in Aberdeen. Both schemes were set up by the Aberdeen Fairtrade Steering Group.
