Aberdeen schools to compete in Scotland-wide quiz on Euro
28/02/13
Pupils from schools in Aberdeen will compete in the local heat of a Scotland-wide quiz on Europe which has been organised by the award-winning Scottish European Educational Trust.
Teams of four pupils from twelve schools will take part in the Aberdeen heat, which will take place on at 9.30am on Tuesday 05 March at Woodside School, Clifton Road.
The winning team from Aberdeen will compete against 30 other local authority teams in the national final in May 2013 at the Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh.
The type of questions the pupils could be asked include:
* Fleur Delacour from Harry Potter comes from which European country?
* Which member state currently holds the rotating Presidency of the Council of the European Union?
* Which English word that means the same as s'il vous plaît, bitte, por favor and per favour?
If you don't know the answers, just ask the primary six pupils taking part in this year's Euroquiz.
As well as questions covering history, geography, sport, culture, and the EU, this year's Euroquiz has a language round in which pupils' knowledge of French, German, Spanish or Italian is tested.
Aberdeen City Council's Convener of Education, Culture and Sport Committee Councillor Jenny Laing said: "This quiz is a great way to encourage young people to develop their interest in foreign languages, cultures and general knowledge in a fun environment."
