Apprenticeships on offer at recruitment event

31/03/14

A one-day recruitment event to help young people secure an apprenticeship takes place in Aberdeen this week.

Apprentice Painter & Decorator Nicola Buchan talks to Scott Ryan about apprentice vacancies with the Council. The event, which will involve a number of city-based firms, is aimed at promoting apprenticeships available to school and college leavers, as well as other young people seeking a career. It gives companies the opportunity to promote vacancies and attract wider interest for upcoming apprenticeships.

A wide range of apprenticeship vacancies are on offer with organisations including Aberdeen City Council, British Telecom, NHS Grampian, Sport Aberdeen, Marriott, Sainsburys, Arnold Clark, Stewart Milne, Scot JCB, Veripos, and Mears.

Information on career and training options will also be available, with professionals on hand to discuss training and career choices for those not ready to enter employment.

Council leader Barney Crockett said: "Aberdeen is one of the best places in Europe to find work, but securing an apprenticeship can be difficult. Aberdeen City Council is working hard to support young people into apprenticeships and other employment opportunities. We have opportunities available within the council, and I am very pleased to see that a number of other city-based organisations from both the public and private sectors will also be recruiting young people across a broad range of disciplines. Looking to the future are Cults Academy pupils Connor Murison,Jessica Quantrill and Stevie Durrant.

"This event provides an excellent opportunity for young job seekers to find work and I would strongly encourage any young city residents to come along, see what's on offer, and perhaps secure their first step on the career ladder."

The Apprenticeship and Youth Recruitment Event will be held in the Town and County Hall in the Town House, Broad Street, on Thursday, 03 April from 10am until 4pm.
