Annual event offers local artists the chance to be part of prestigious exhibition


The prestigious Aberdeen Artists Society's exhibition will open to the public on Saturday 10 May at Aberdeen Art Gallery, Schoolhill.

This major annual 'open' display provides professional, established, amateur and emerging artists with a platform to show an exciting range of work including painting, sculpture, printmaking, jewellery, textiles and film.

Apache North Sea Ltd, MSD Design Ltd, Gallery at Fifty Five and Wellhead Electrical Supplies sponsor this popular event which will see renowned Inverness-born artist Will Maclean MBE, choose three winners from works submitted by artists from all over Scotland.

The winners will receive 3,000, 2,000 and 1,000 respectively thanks to main sponsor Apache North Sea Ltd.

Iain Halkett, president, Aberdeen Artists Society, said: "The exhibition attracted 500 entries this year and we are pleased to show 250 of these. This is a great opportunity for the public to see and purchase contemporary work produced by artists from all over the country."

Deirdre Grant, head of public programmes, Aberdeen Art Gallery and Museums, said: "We are delighted to host Aberdeen Artists Society exhibition once again. It provides a particularly strong focus for those artists living and working in the North of Scotland and is always keenly anticipated by our visitors."

The exhibition will be on show until Saturday 21 June 2014.
